· On Demand: On July 16, 2012, a Petition of Five Licensed Attorneys was filed with the Court recommending rule changes to permit Minnesota licensed attorneys to obtain an unlimited number of their required CLE credits through on-demand CLE. On February 14, 2013, the Board filed a Petition with the Court recommending rule changes to permit lawyers to satisfy up to 15 hours of their required CLE credits through on-demand CLE.

On February 28, 2013, the Court issued an Order scheduling a public hearing for the Court to consider the Petitions. The hearing is scheduled for May 29, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. The deadline for written comments and for requests to speak at the public hearing is April 30, 2013. Instructions for filing comments and requests to speak are contained within the Order.

· Emeritus: Effective July 1, 2013, lawyers who have filed a Retirement Affidavit with the Lawyer Registration Office, pursuant to Rule 2(C)(5) of the Lawyer Registration rules may qualify to provide pro bono legal representation through an approved legal services provider by meeting the eligibility requirements of Rule 14 of the Rules of the Board of Continuing Legal Education. The, Order dated March 15, 2013, is attached.

Lawyers in CLE category 2 who have been practicing at least 3 years are due to report by 8/31/13 for the reporting period which began July 1, 2010. If you do not know your reporting category you can find out by logging on to your account. Contact the office by emailing oasis@mbcle.state.mn.us if you need your password. Please make sure to provide your email address and license number.

There is no charge if you report your CLE attendance online through OASIS. Effective July 1, 2010 there will be a $10 fee for filing paper affidavits of attendance.

CLE REQUIREMENTS: The CLE Rules require that each lawyer holding an active license complete a minimum of 45 credit hours, including at least 3 ethics credit hours and 2 elimination of bias credit hours, every 3 years.

The filing deadline for Category 2 attorneys reporting CLE compliance in 2013 is August 31, 2013. The Rules do not require that you report your compliance by June 30, 2013 (the last day of the reporting period.) If you have not met your CLE requirements by June 30, 2013, you may complete them between July 1, 2013 and August 31, 2013 without requesting a formal extension from the Board. You must enter your courses through OASIS or submit your Affidavit of CLE Compliance by August 31, 2013, or you will be subject to a $75 late filing fee.
